U2′s lead singer, Bono, hurt his back recently and was released from a German hospital on Tuesday. Bono has a minimum of eight weeks of rest and months of rehabilitation ahead of him so the concert promoter Live Nation is pushing back U2′s 360° North American tour until next year.

Live Nation said fans should hold on to their tickets until the new dates are scheduled. Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, had emergency spine surgery last Friday.

“Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve. On review of his MRI scan, I realized there was a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc, and that conservative treatment would not suffice,” Bono’s doctor, Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt, said in a statement released by the concert promoter.

Professor Joerg Christian Tonn, who carried out the operation, added, “He was already in severe pain with partial paralysis in the lower leg. The ligament surrounding the disc had an 8mm tear and during surgery we discovered fragments of the disc had traveled into the spinal canal. This surgery was the only course of treatment for full recovery and to avoid further paralysis. Bono is now much better, with complete recovery of his motor deficit. The prognosis is excellent, but to obtain a sustainable result, he must now enter a period of rehabilitation.”

“Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we’re all devastated,” said U2′s manager Paul McGuinness. “For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience, which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make a full recovery.”

U2 frontman Bono indicated in an interview with the Irish Independent that a new album from the band will be ready by June. Bono also revealed that the name of the album will be Songs of Ascent.

The "One" singer said in the same interview that Songs of Ascent will function as a sister effort to No Line on the Horizon, similar to the way Zooropa and Achtung Baby shared conceptual and thematic links.

There are several U2 songs floating around that are rumored to be making their way onto Songs of Ascent, including "Winter," a song that didn't make No Line On The Horizon. "Winter" did, however, appear in the movie Brothers.

Another song believed to be on the album is "Kingdom Of Your Love," which was heard as part of the intro music during U2's recent tour.

EU Ticket News - B2B Ticketing Industry website

This morning the presale for the U2 Concert in Zurich, Switzerland started at 8 a.m. with hundreds gathered in the cold hours before 8 a.m. (Some say they were there already at 5 am) at the Ticketcorner office at Berne train station.

15 minutes later (at 8 a.m.), it was all over and all the 45.000 tickets were sold out.

According to a journalist on location only 4 to 6 people were able to get tickets at the ticketcorner in Berne and more than 50 people went home with empty hands.

While these fans were waiting in the cold, others were trying to purchae U2 tickets through the internet, however the Ticketcorner website was down due to a crash overload. Fans trying to visit the Ticketcorner website, ended up in the so called waiting room saying: “Our webshop is busy helping customers”.

At EU Ticket News we wrote about the AC/DC concert and Muse concert for which fans were able to subscribe to the website of the band in order to get the tickets earlier and this was also possible for the U2 Concert in Zurich. Many tickets were sold out before per sales started. At 8:45 a.m. the Ticketcorner website said:

“U2 Sales are done, the contingent is exhausted”.

There's hope yet for Montreal fans of Irish musical phenoms' U2 as Gillett Entertainment Group (GEG) announced on Monday, Jan. 25, that another batch of general-admission tickets would be released for both of the band’s 'sold-out' shows next summer.

The July 16 and 17 shows at the Montreal Hippodrome will be expanded by "several thousand' tickets according to a GEG press release, though the details on quantities are vague.

The press release also mentioned that all the new general admission tickets for both concerts cost $55 plus any service charges. The drive for what will probably be the last batch of U2 tickets will start at noon on Jan. 20, and will likely sell out before 12:30, judging by the concert's sales thus far.

According to the Gazette, tickets for the July 16 U2 concert at the Hippodrome took all of 20 minutes to sell-out, prompting the creation of a second date. The July 17 performance didn't take too much longer to sell-out, with all the tickets accounted for in just 30 minutes. Together, the two Montreal dates on the U2 360 tour sold out over 140, 000 tickets in 50 minutes.

The Gazette also reported that GEG said the two sold-out dates were already a record sell-out for the biggest paid concert in an open-air stadium in Montreal. The new tickets should only add to this title.

The selection of the Hippodrome for the show raised some eye-brows but it’s the only venue that could fit the 80, 000 person crowds U2 knew they could bring in. The band even spent 3 million of their own money to make the site useable and Montreal fans are clearly not letting it go to waste.

Tickets can be bought here.

Get You U2 Concert Tickets For The 2010 Tour!

Nearly 35 years ago 4 lads from Dublin began playing together as teenagers. Just a few years later they were signed to a record deal with Island Records and the rest, as they say, has been rock history.

Although their sound was influenced by the punk fare of the day, U2 had and continues to have a sound all its own. The Jam, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols (man I loved Sid Vicious) all were great bands and all left their mark on the formative years of U2, but the haunting guitar of the edge, the pounding drums of Larry Mullen, the deep resounding bass lines of Adam Clayton and the voice…THE voice of a man named Paul Hewson are like no other we have ever heard.

You may now know Paul Hewson as the rest of the world does… simply as Bono.

Bono had me hooked as a young college student. I had heard all of the bands that were supposedly “hot” and being a bit rebellious I was looking for something with a bit more edge and a bit more depth. In 1980 upon hearing “I Will Follow”, I knew what I had been looking for.

That one song has been played in over 757 U2 concerts so I am pretty sure that I am not alone in saying and feeling that the first hit from U2 resonates with millions of people around the world.

When Bono was 14 his mother died. He has said that this song is about the unconditional love a mother has for her child. He could not have done it any better than this.

U2 is hitting the road in 2010 and if you have not had a chance to see the best band in the world, you may want to get you U2 concert tickets as soon as you can. Bands like this only come around once in a lifetime.

BBC News

The filming of a new movie linked to the Irish supergroup U2 has taken part of Belfast city centre back by three decades.

The feature film, entitled "Killing Bono", is being made in and around the city over the next six weeks. Waring Street and Lower Donegall Street have been dressed to portray a vision of London in the late 1970s.

Traffic diversions will be in place on Sunday and Monday but rush hour traffic will not be affected by the filming. The film, which has been described as a "music-based comedy", is set during U2's formative years in north Dublin and London.

It is based on the memoirs of Bono's schoolfriend, Neil McCormick, who is now a music critic for the Daily Telegraph newspaper. "Killing Bono" tells the story from the point of view of the rather less successful rival band which he set up with his brother in the late 1970s.

The film is directed by the Belfast-born director Nick Hamm and has received funding from Northern Ireland Screen, with help from Invest NI.

It is hoped the film will be released in the summer of 2010.

Los Angeles Times

Heroin and NASCAR, who knew? U2 fans watching the NFL playoffs on Fox this weekend surely heard what would seem to be an oddly placed song scoring the network's preview of the upcoming Daytona 500: U2's mid-'80s hit "Bad." The commercial features little more than a snippet of one of the Edge's most recognizable guitar riffs -- the few slow, glistening notes that set the table for the song's explosive rock 'n' roll release.

U2 hasn't exactly shied away from commercial endorsements of late, or massive sporting events. Also, anyone who has attended any NFL, NBA or MLB game in recent years has likely heard "Beautiful Day" piped throughout the arena or stadium, further linking U2 with the sporting world. Yet judging by some previous NASCAR-branded music releases, U2 seems to be a bit out of place with the barroom hits and country rock more closely tied to the sport.

Granted, it's more a story these days when rock 'n' roll doesn't appear in a commercial, but are U2 fans ready to have one of the band's most iconic songs forever associated with auto racing? If the quick responses on Twitter are any gauge, then no.

Though Bono's lyrics in "Bad" are vague and open to interpretation, it's a song long believed to be about heroin addiction, making it feel a bit out of place in hyping the Feb. 14 race. Watch the commercial below.
